Is there a way to install Volumio on the PC, keeping my files on the internal HDD? 

Volumio can work on dedicated Windows based PC.

You can write the proper IMG file on PC HDD, but you should use that PC only for Volumio otherwise you will cancel all data saved.

Alternatively, you can install Volumio on another device such RPI or Tinkerboard S platforms.
